Rihanna Justin Bieber Katy Perry AMAs music entertainment news 13579086

While Rihanna has been rewarded with five American Music Awards, she has never claimed the top prize of Artist of the Year.

Since 2007, she has been named Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist three times and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist once and her top-selling disc "Loud" won Favorite Soul/R&B Album last year.

This year she contends in the most coveted category for the first time. While she is far ahead among our Users predicting this race, our Editors are split about who will prevail. Two of them back her bid but three of them favor 2010 champ Justin Bieber.

Last year, the teen sensation was snubbed by the AMAs, not even reaping a nomination for Artist of the Year and losing Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist to Bruno Mars.

Also in contention is two-time also-ran Katy Perry who could pull off a surprise here as she did at last year's MTV VMAs.
