WATCH: Naomi Watts and J.A. Bayona on 'The Impossible'

"'The Impossible' is one of the most emotionally realistic disaster movies in recent memory -- and certainly one of the most frightening in its epic re-creation of the catastrophic 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami," says the Hollywood Reporter. "The actors give edge-of-seat performances as their characters weather the 2004 East Asian catastrophe in J.A. Bayone's taut disaster film."

Naomi Watts has received one Oscar nomination to date ("21 Grams," 2003) and was voted Best Actress by the National Society of Film Critics ("Mulholland Dr." 2001). Now she's due for more academy attention and could get it for her bruising portrayal of a devoted mother who struggles to bring her son to safety after a tsunami despite being severely wounded.

This production is helmed by  Juan Antonio Bayona, who reaped critics' huzzahs for "The Orphanage" (2007).
