Critics Choice Awards snubs Django Unchained Leonardo DiCaprio Keira Knightley Anna Karenina movies entertainment news 13579086The Broadcast Film Critics Assn. has a solid track record at forecasting the eventual Oscar nominees with its Critics' Choice Awards contenders. That makes a snub here even more noteworthy.

Last year, the BFCA foresaw all of the nine eventual Oscar Best Picture nominees (its 10th nominee was "Drive") and it predicted 13 of the 20 acting nominees. In 2010, it went nine for 10 with the Best Picture contenders by going for "The Town" over "The Kids Are All Right") and 18 of the 20 acting contenders; they overlooked Javier Bardem ("Biutiful") and John Hawkes ("Winter's Bone").

The most notable omission in the top race this year is "Amour," which just won Best Picture from the Los Angeles Film Critics Assn. Also MIA are three blockbusters with critical cred -- "The Dark Knight Rises," "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "Skyfall." (Read report on nominations here and see full list here.)

Also absent is Paul Thomas Anderson who was named Best Director by LAFCA for "The Master," which did reap a Best Picture bid. Other directors who helmed one of the 10 Best Picture nominees but did not make the final six were Wes Anderson ("Moonrise Kingdom"), Quentin Tarantino ("Django Unchained") and Benh Zeitlin ("Beasts of the Southern Wild")

None of the "Django" cast made the cut, including Oscar champs Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz. Also snubbed across the board was "Hitchcock" which stars Oscar winners Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren. And "Anna Karenina," Joe Wright's third film with Keira Knightley picked up just two creative bids.
