Grammys Grammy Awards Beyonce Anita Baker Melanie Fiona SWV music entertainment news 13579086

Our two music awards editors -- Darrin Dortch and David Schnelwar -- agree on the winner of Best Traditional R&B Performance at this Sunday's Grammys.

Anita Baker - “Lately”
Beyonce - “Love On Top” -- Darrin, David
Melanie Fiona - “Wrong Side Of A Love Song”
Gregory Porter - “Real Good Hands”
SWV - “If Only You Knew”

Darrin's analysis
Veteran Anita Baker (“Lately”), last year’s winner Melanie Fiona (“Wrong Side of a Love Song”) and comeback kids SWV (“If You Only Knew”) are all competitive here.

However, I expect Beyonce to win since she has the category’s biggest hit.

David's analysis
Melanie Fiona won in this category last year for her collaboration with Cee Lo Green for the song “Fool For You.”  She is not likely to repeat her victory this year.

Anita Baker is a seven-time Grammy winner but has lost in Best Traditional R&B Performance twice for “You’re My Everything”  (2004) and “Christmastime Is Here” (2006). She could possibly upset.

SWV were last nominated in 1993 for Best New Artist and lost to Toni Braxton.  It has taken them nineteen years to receive a second Grammy nomination.

Beyonce is a 16-time Grammy winner and previously won Best Traditional R&B Performance for a cover of the Etta James’ classic “At Last.” You can never count out Beyonce at the Grammys.
