Our two music awards editors -- David Schnelwar and Darrin Dortch -- disagree on the winner of Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at this Sunday's Grammys.
Florence + The Machine - “Shake It Out”
Fun. f./ Janelle Monae - “We Are Young” -- Darrin
Gotye f./ Kimbra – “Somebody That I Used To Know” -- David
LMFAO – “Sexy And I Know It”
Maroon 5 & Wiz Khalifa – “Payphone”
David's analysis
This race is between Fun. and Gotye.
Both are nominated for Record of the Year and both peaked at #1 on Billboard Hot 100 -- “Somebody That I Used To Know” (8 weeks) and “We Are Young” (6 weeks).
However, “Somebody That I Used To Know” was #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 of 2012 and #1 on VH1’s year-end Top 20 of 2012.
Maroon 5 has won this category twice: “This Love” (2005) and “Makes Me Wonder” (2007). They are also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and are possibles to upset in this category.
Darrin's analysis
It’s a close race between Record of the Year nominees Fun. (“We Are Young”) and Gotye feat. Kimbra (“Somebody That I Used to Know”).
Though the latter scored the year’s #1 song on Billboard and VH1, Fun. has the edge since they scored more overall nominations.
