Our two music awards editors -- Darrin Dortch and David Schnelwar -- agree on the winner of Best R&B Album at this Sunday's Grammys.
“Black Radio” - Robert Glasper Experiment
“Back To Love” - Anthony Hamilton
“Write Me Back” - R. Kelly -- Darrin, David
“Beautiful Surprise” - Tamia
“Open Invitation” - Tyrese
Darrin's analysis
This is a weak category.
R. Kelly is the biggest name here so he’s the frontrunner. But watch out for perennial nominee Anthony Hamilton.
David's analysis
None of the nominees for Best R&B Album are nominated for Album of the Year.
The biggest name artist usually wins in this category. R. Kelly is a three time Grammy winner but has not won a Grammy since his 1997 hit song “I Believe I Can Fly.”
Tyrese has been previously nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance twice for his songs “Lately” (1999) and “How U Gonna Act Like That” (2003). He has since appeared in blockbuster film franchises like “Transformers” and “The Fast and the Furious.” His acting crossover could help him.
