Our two music awards experts -- Darrin Dortch and David Schnelwar -- are previewing the top Grammys races. This is the last of the Rap field races beginning with the Rap field. They have already given their predictions for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Duo or Group, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Solo Performance and will be forecasting the rest of the races in the days to come.
BEST RAP SONG
“Empire State of Mind”
“Love the Way You Lie”
“Not Afraid”
“Nothin’ On You”
“On to the Next One”
For Darrin: This is yet another competitive race, but I’m giving the edge to “Empire” again considering the impact of the song. Watch out for “Lie” since it is a Song of the Year nominee and “Nothin’” since voters may want to honor Bruno Mars as a songwriter.
However, David says, "Love the Way You Lie" is the only Best Rap Song nominee nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. "Empire State of Mind" and "Nothin' On You" are both nominated for Record of the Year and have a chance of upsetting. There is an outside chance that "Nothin' On You" can win if the two Eminem nominated songs and the two Jay-Z nominated songs split the vote.
