Globe voters like to be the first to honor a hot new show or performer. Last year, that happened with "Homeland" and star Claire Danes as well as Matt LeBlanc ("Episodes") and Laura Dern ("Enlightened"). They also like to fete expected and/or recent Emmy winners to show they are on top of the critical favorites. This disparity leads to unexpected choices sometimes.
With Dern not eligible this year, look for a shocker for Best TV Comedy/Musical Actress. Emmy champ Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("Veep") is the frontrunner, but keep your eyes on ingenue Lena Dunham, who is also the writer, director and producer of her HBO hit show "Girls." HFPA voters may just love to see what she would say and do on stage.
