22 Oscar-Nominated Performances Directed by Martin Scorsese

Alan Alda, 'The Aviator'

Although he has been working for over five decades, the only Oscar nomination received by Alan Alda was for "The Aviator" (2004). He played Senator Owen Brewster and lost that Best Supporting Actor race to Morgan Freeman ("Million Dollar Baby"). The other nominees that year were Thomas Haden Church ("Sideways"), Jamie Foxx ("Collateral"), and Clive Owen ("Closer").
