David Letterman celebrates 30 years as a late night television host next February. His approach has always been described as a hybrid combining the hijinks and physical bits of Steve Allen and the topical monologue and conversational interviewing style of Johnny Carson. His NBC show "Late Night with David Letterman" and CBS show "The Late Show with David Letterman" have accumulated over 100 Emmy nominations and dozens of wins (including six times as Best Variety Series).
Letterman has personally won five primetime Emmy Awards and two daytime Emmys from a total of 53 nominations. His company Worldwide Pants has produced "Everybody Loves Raymond," "Ed," "Life with Bonnie," and the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (and earlier editions by Tom Snyder and Craig Kilborn). Other hosts already inducted in the TV Hall of Fame include Allen, Carson, Dick Clark, Phil Donahue, Merv Griffin, Regis Philbin, Dinah Shore, Ed Sullivan, David Susskind, and Oprah Winfrey.
