Sarah Jessica Parker, 'Sex and the City' ('The Drought' - 1999)

In 1999, before "Sex and the City" had become a full-fledged cultural touchstone, Parker made a poor first impression on Emmy voters, submitting the first-season episode "The Drought," in which Carrie is upset about farting in bed with Mr. Big. She lost that contest to Helen Hunt, who submitted the series finale of "Mad About You"; in a case of Emmy kismet, Parker finally won in 2004 by submitting her own series finale, "An American in Paris, Part Deux."
