2018 Oscar predictions: Why Michael Musto picks ‘Three Billboards’ to win Best Picture
“I’m sticking with ‘Three Billboards’!” roars Michael Musto about his Oscar prediction for Best Picture now that it just won at BAFTA after previously snagging the top prizes at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. Watch our video chat above or listen to the audio podcast version below.
“‘The Shape of Water’ is the kind of movie that you hear people saying, rapturously, that they love,” Michael adds. “But I think ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri’ hits people in a visceral way. It reflects some of the issues of today. It has complex characters who are deeply flawed. These days I think Oscar voters like that kind of quirky movie.”
Michael notes that the same four actors swept the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, SAG and BAFTA Awards, but he insists, “The Oscars can’t be exactly the same as all of the other awards. There’s always one top category with a surprise. Just to be wacky, I’m going with Laurie Metcalf, who I actually think was wonderful.
“I just happen to think that there’s going to be one category at the Oscars where people will go, “‘Oh, that’s different from what we expected!’ Otherwise, what’s the point of the Oscars? Why even have them?”
