Anthony Anderson on Red Carpet: ‘Black-ish’
At Monday's cocktail reception for Emmy nominees hosted by the Performers Peer Group of the TV academy, we chatted with Best Comedy Actor contender Anthony Anderson ("Black-ish") on the red carpet about his Emmy episode submission and knocking four-time champ Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory") out of the race.
Anderson's Emmy entry is "Sex, Lies and Vasectomies," the episode in which his character, Andre "Dre" Johnson, must come clean about never having the vasectomy he was supposed to get years earlier. "It was a great story from beginning to end," he reveals to Gold Derby editor Chris Beachum. "The journey that Andre went on throughout that story I thought was a good one to tell. And here we are."
This year, there are seven nominees for Best Comedy Actor instead of the usual six because of a tie. "I'd like to think I was in the Top 5 though," Anderson jokes. Shockingly, Parsons, who's already won this category four times (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014), was snubbed. "Either we knocked him out or he decided to give us a chance to win. That's how I like to look at it. Jim's like, 'I have four of them, let someone else take one home.'"
