Constance Zimmer Q&A: ‘UnREAL’

“That night was super crazy,” recalls Constance Zimmer (“UnReal“) as we chat via webcam about her recent triumph at the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Drama Supporting Actress. Taking a break from filming Season 2 of the Lifetime hit, Zimmer laughs that her Vancouver cast mates gave her “a lot of crap” for her big victory. “Everyone’s like, where’s the award? Are you gonna bring it and like put it on your desk every day to prove that you won an award?”

“I think that it’s fun to be the underdog,” Zimmer continues. “I play underdogs on television and I feel like I’m an underdog as an actor. I’ve been around for so long and it’s just fun to feel like everybody was unbelievably excited for me, and that I think is what made the win even that much greater and that much stronger.”

Coming up next is the Emmy Awards, where Zimmer could well earn her first-ever nomination. “I honestly don’t even think I can wrap my head around that,” she concedes. “It seems so surreal and unattainable right now. I think if a nomination happened, I’m not quite sure what I would do with myself. I might not be able to leave the house for a few days because I’d be so emotional.”

The actress readily admits that her character — Quinn King, executive producer of show-within-a-show “Everlasting” — “is a challenge. Every time I read a script, I’m like, I don’t know how I’m gonna make that work. I really don’t. Here goes nothing!”

Zimmer teases the upcoming second season that premieres on Lifetime June 6. “It’s going to be darker and dirtier, and yet somehow three of the characters will find love again in the most oddest of places.”
