Finn Wittrock Q&A: ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’
On "American Horror Story: Freak Show," Finn Wittrock plays deranged serial killer-in-training Dandy Mott, one of the season's most popular characters. Humbly, he says he feels very much like a newcomer on the FX hit that includes such regular series mega-stars as Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates and Frances Conroy.
"The first few episodes didn't seem real," he tells Gold Derby in our webcam chat. "Are they gonna find out that I'm still here? I mean, this isn't right, right? They're gonna fire me at some point."
Wittrock says that the cast and crew welcomed him with open arms. But with the current season winding down (they're about to start production on the final episode of the season), would Wittrock be interested in coming back for Season 5 of the franchise next year if creator Ryan Murphy asked him?
"I would say 'yes,'" he adds. "I don't know if I would do the whole season, maybe a few, you know? But that's all very, very up in the air …. I would want to do something absolutely, completely, diametrically different than this."
While chatting with Wittrock about "Freak Show," there's no way to avoid discussing his most revealing moments: those underwear scenes in the "Pink Cupcakes" episode that set the Twitterverse abuzz.
"First, [the producers told me], 'You're gonna be shirtless during Episode 5' and I was like, OK, I can deal with that," he recalls. "And then I get the script and I'm like, this is a lot more than being shirtless, guys! Like, come on, you could have given me some warning," joked Wittrock.
When we informed Wittrock that Gold Derby currently has an "AHS: Freak Show" prediction game where our readers can vote for who will die each week, he spoiled that now is when "The deaths start to accrue. And some of them are because of me."
