Jonathan Banks on Red Carpet: ‘Better Call Saul’
At Monday's cocktail reception for Emmy nominees hosted by the Performers Peer Group of the TV academy, we chatted with Best Drama Supporting Actor frontrunner Jonathan Banks ("Better Call Saul") on the red carpet about his record-setting nomination and his old "Breaking Bad" co-star Aaron Paul.
When we inform Banks he set a record by being nominated in this category for three different series, he chimes in, "You tell me if I'm right, but nobody had had it for two different shows." He's right, of course. Banks was nominated for Drama Supporting Actor for "Wiseguy" (1989), "Breaking Bad" (2013) and "Better Call Saul" (2015) while no other nominee in this category's history has ever been cited for more than one series.
"I get such a kick out of that. It may be complete trivia, but what fun," he adds of his accomplishment. Third time might be the charm for Banks, as he's polling at #1 with leading 4/9 odds in Gold Derby's predictions for who will win Best Drama Supporting Actor. However, Banks didn't want to hear his odds at all, as you'll see in the video below.
When we ask Banks if he's happy three-time winner Paul is no longer in his category, he smiles ear to ear. "I love Aaron. I wish he was right here next to me because he'd be laughing. Aaron and I had such a good time [on 'Breaking Bad']. I'd get him in that old car out in the desert and I'd throw him around. We had a great time."
