Julie Delpy & Richard Linklater (‘Before Midnight’)
"Before Midnight" is the final film in a triology that stars Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy as American writer Jesse and Parisian Celine. Their romance has been explored over one evening in "Before Sunrise" (1995), one afternoon in "Before Sunset" (2004), and now one day in "Midnight." The actors shared in an Oscar bid with director Richard Linklater for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Sunset" and all three crafted the script for this new installment as well.
Recently, Delpy and Linklater chatted to Gold Derby and the actress, who has also written and directed several films of her own, joked about the benefits of taking the reins of her career: "The truth is I decided pretty early on I didn't want to have sex with people for parts and I wanted to have good dialogue," she said, "so that's kind of why I started writing. Isn't that a good motto, to start writing because you don't want to have sex with the director?"
