Kathryn Hahn Q&A: ‘I Love Dick’ and ‘Transparent’
“The ten-year-old in me was very excited,” jokes Kathryn Hahn during our recent video chat (watch the exclusive video above) about her new series “I Love Dick.” Based on the novel by Chris Kraus, this Amazon series centers on a married artist (Hahn) who falls in love with a dynamic professor named Dick (Kevin Bacon) after moving to Texas with her husband (Griffin Dunne). Hahn plays Kraus, who wrote the book based on her own experiences.
The show was created by Sarah Gubbins and Jill Soloway, who has worked with Hahn several times, most notably on her series “Transparent.” “This was one of a couple of titles she sent my way to possibly read,” Hahn reveals, “and of course I was immediately intrigued, having never heard of it before.” Upon reading Kraus’ novel, which merges fiction and memoir to paint a portrait of the author’s sexual obsession and artistic liberation, she divulges, “I just could not believe I had never heard of this book and this writing before. It’s so bombastic and fearless, brave and unapologetic.”
Hahn has received SAG nominations as part of the ensembles of “Transparent” and the film “Captain Fantastic” (2016). With both Laurie Metcalf (“Getting On”) and Amy Schumer (“Inside Amy Schumer”) out of the running this year, can she reap her first Emmy bid for Best Comedy Actress? Check out our full interview above for more about her work on “I Love Dick,” which premieres on Amazon on May 12th.
