Mayim Bialik on Red Carpet: ‘The Big Bang Theory’

At Monday's cocktail reception for Emmy nominees hosted by the Performers Peer Group of the TV academy, we chatted with Best Comedy Supporting Actress contender Mayim Bialik ("The Big Bang Theory") on the red carpet about why she chose to submit "The Prom Equivalency" as her episode submission and what we can expect from Season 9's resolution to last year's shocking cliffhanger.

"It was the episode that other people told me to submit," reveals Bialik about her Emmy entry. "I actually don't choose them myself. I usually ask Jim Parsons and Bill Prady and Eric Kaplan and my publicist Heather Weiss, and I let them decide. It's so hard to pick one. It's like kids. You can't pick your favorite kid." This is the third year running that the actress has been nominated for her role as neuroscientist Amy Farrah-Fowler. In "The Prom Equivalency," the girls decide to redo their high school proms, and Sheldon (Parsons) feels pressure to further his relationship with Amy.

Regarding last season's cliffhanger, in which Amy ended her relationship with Sheldon, she says, "I was honestly surprised that that's where we landed. But our writers know what they're doing. They've got their finger kind of on the pulse of what works for our show."

Bialik even teases a bit about the upcoming ninth season coming to CBS this fall, having already filmed the first three episodes. "We pick right up where we left off. Literally a day after. No time [jump]," she admits.
