Omari Hardwick and 50 Cent Q&A: ‘Power’
During our recent webcam chat (watch above), “Power” stars Omari Hardwick and 50 Cent spoke enthusiastically about the return of their Starz series on July 17. “I think when people get a chance to really get into this season, they’re going to be blown away by it,” raves 50 Cent. “There’s so many intense moments.”
Hardwick plays James “Ghost” St. Patrick, a drug kingpin and nightclub owner, who tries to leave behind his life of crime to focus on his legitimate business. 50 Cent costars as Kanan, an ex-felon who believes Ghost set him up and is out for revenge.
50 Cent, a Grammy-winning rapper developed the idea with Courtney Kemp, an Emmy-nominated producer of “The Good Wife.” Hardwick praises his costar, describing him as “the American story; he had a vision about how to tell all of the different colors that were inside of him, and all the things he had seen, even parts that weren’t him, and I think he went to the right person in terms of Courtney then expounding on that.”
About to start its third season, the show has proved exceptionally popular with both critics and viewers. Reflecting on its success, 50 Cent admits, “the way my mind works, I can’t work on a project with you as hard as we have to work on it if I don’t believe it’s going to work. I consistently remind myself why I’m doing it by saying, ‘this is going to work,’ because if I don’t put it into existence by saying it to people, it doesn’t.”
