Priyanka Chopra Q&A: ‘Quantico’

On ABC’s hit drama series “Quantico,” Priyanka Chopra plays FBI agent Alex Parish who, when set-up to take the fall for a terrorist attack, comments “in this country it’s easier to frame a brown girl.” As Chopra readily admits during our recent webcam chat (watch above), “when I read that line I said ‘Wow, we are actually going to say this.’ To actually call that out is a big moment.”

As she explains, “there are so many people in America that get stuck in a situation where they are racially profiled because of being from a certain part of the world, looking a certain way or having a certain color of skin. It’s happened to me so many times. I’ve been called an ‘Arab terrorist.’ I love the fact this show calls these things out and hits the nail on the head.”

The actress describes her character as “fearless. She’ll go anywhere, She’ll do anything. She’s not afraid of anything I wish I could be a little bit more like her. Alex doesn’t even think about her fears. I’m fearless in terms that I go out there and do things that are new but I have my moments in the bathroom where I tell myself, ‘Alright, you can do this.’”

One such bathroom moment came when she auditioned for the role. “It was the first audition of my life, so I was really nervous. It was the scariest moment of my life. Before I went in, I went to the bathroom and straightened my hair. My hands were sweaty and I was nervous. I then went in there, I did what I do and thankfully it worked out.”
