Watch Tom O’Neil & Pete Hammond track the Oscar race for Best Actress
Pete Hammond (Deadline) and Tom O’Neil agree that several frontrunners have already emerged in the Oscar race for Best Actress: Sally Hawkins (“Shape of Water”), Frances McDormand (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Saoirse Ronan (“Lady Bird”) and Meryl Streep (“The Post”). See video of their chat above or listen to the audio podcast below.
“Sally Hawkins is not only great in ‘Shape of Water,’ but she’s great in ‘Maudie,’ which is a screener that went out to academy members already, so I have a feeling that could help her enormously,” Pete says. “Many people who saw ‘Shape of Water’ love it, really love it. It has that passion vote going for it.”
Up until recently, Hawkins led all contenders in the Best Actress race, according to the predictions of dozens of Experts polled by Gold Derby, but McDormand has now zoomed ahead her.
