Christian LeBlanc shares secrets of Daytime Emmys success [Audio]

Even though this is his ninth Daytime Emmy nomination, Christian LeBlanc says he is still thrilled to be recognized for his work as Michael Baldwin on “The Young and the Restless.”

He lost all four of his Supporting Actor bids in 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2004.  Only when he got bumped up to Best Actor in 2005 was he victorious. He went on to win again in 2007 and 2009 and earned a bid in 2008 as well.

Although Michael could be read as a one-note villian, LeBlanc works hard to make the character more complex. He picks out his Emmy reel with the advice of co-stars Michelle Stafford and Doug Davidson. Stafford shared with him her secret of submitting scenes that have a “wow” factor.

Christian LeBlanc is proud to be part of the daytime community and faithfully attends the Emmys regardless of whether he is in contention. When he is nominated all is well until just before his category when he gets very nervous. “Somebody will have to hold my hand to keep me from jumping onstage to get that Emmy.

Asked about starring on the highest-rated daytime drama, LeBlanc said it was a guest star who made him realize how lucky he was as “‘Y&R’ doesn’t have the feeling of an axe hanging over it.”
