Katy Perry and Adele battle for Video of the Year at MTV VMAs

Neither Katy Perry nor Adele has won an MTV Video Music Award till now, but they are joint frontrunners for the top prize of Video of the Year. Perry, who leads with nine nominations, contends for her sparkling rendition of “Firework.” And Adele is up for seven awards, all for her breakup anthem “Rolling in the Deep.

While they are virtually tied among our users who have predicted the winner of this race, Perry has a slight edge as she was the pick of six of our 11 editors. That gives her an even chance to prevail while Adele has odds of three to two.

The other nominees for Video of the Year are are the Beastie Boys for “Make Some Noise” (12 to 1); Bruno Mars for “Grenade” (50 to 1); and Tyler, The Creator for “Yonkers” (100 to 1). Mars also contends in three other races — both Male Video and Pop Video for “Grenade” and choreography for “Lazy Song.” Tyler, the Creator is up for Best New Artist while “Make Some Noise” also contends for its direction.

Voting for the VMAs is both online and by text. Winners won’t be revealed until Aug. 28 when the 28th annual awardscast airs across the MTV channel of networks from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. But right now you can log your predictions for the winners of all 14 races.
