‘Modern Family,’ ‘Game of Thrones’ among AFI’s Top 10 TV Shows

Reigning Emmy winner “Modern Family” was among the top 10 TV achievements of the year as named by the American Film Institute Sunday. Other laffers making the cut with the jury were Emmy rival “Parks and Recreation,” “Louie” which stars Emmy nominee Louis C.K., and the return of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” which had not aired any episodes during the Emmy eligibility period  

Missing from the best in TV in 2011 is four-time Emmy drama champ “Mad Men” which did not air any new episodes this year. Its Emmy rivals “Boardwalk Empire,” “Game of Thrones” and “The Good Wife” made the list. Also meriting mention were “Justified” which featured Emmy winner Margo Martindale, the return of “Breaking Bad” which had been ineligible at the Emmys, and the first season of the recently-wrapped “Homeland.” 

These winners, along with those for the movie awards, will be feted during a Jan. 12 luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.
