Oscars shocker: Dave Karger almost switched to ‘Social Network’

“Believe me, I was wavering – there were times when I came close to switching to ‘The Social Network,’ particularly when it kept winning everything,” Dave Karger confesses to Gold Derby about predicting what will win the Oscar for Best Picture. The Entertainment Weekly scribe is one of the few pundits who never wavered from his early call that “The King’s Speech” will prevail. When we powwowed at that Hollywood Museum, he added, “I also kept thinking: Is the academy really going to want to give Best Picture to a British film this year? Why won’t they want to give it to a really great American film?”
