Steve Pond tops Oscars pundits panel with 33/35

Our 22 pundits provided amazingly accurate predictions for the Oscar nominations and were tripped up by just two surprises. (See the full breakdown of their picks here.)

Congratulations to Steve Pond (The Wrap) and Susan Wloszczyna (USA Today) for coming in first and second place, respectively. Out of 35 possible nominations (10 for Best Picture and 5 each for Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, and Director), Steve got 33 correct, while Susan was right behind with 32.

They were with all the other experts — except Erik Davis (Cinematical) — who had Christopher Nolan (“Inception”) on their list for Best Director. And both joined with 14 other pundits who incorrectly thought Andrew Garfield (“The Social Network”) would get a nod for Best Supporting Actor over John Hawkes (“Winter’s Bone”). Susan’s other miss was in Best Actor where she went with Mark Wahlberg (“The Fighter”) instead of Javier Bardem (“Bituiful”).

Those two men making it into the acting races was certainly unexpected as evidenced by their relative lack of support among our pundits. Just three of them had Hawkes on their lists while Bardem made the cut with only a half dozen of our experts.

Here, below, is how each of our pundits fared with nominations. To see who they predict will win, click here.

30 correct — Thelma Adams (Us Weekly), Erik Davis (Cinematical), Pete Hammond (Deadline), Sasha Stone (Awards Daily)
