‘Twilight’ saga dominates MTV Movie Awards for third year running

“Eclipse,” the third installment in the “Twilight” saga, won five of its six races at the MTV Movie Awards, which were determined by online voting. The film claimed Best Movie as had both of the first two entries in the franchise, and Kristen Stewart took home her third consecutive Best Female Performance prize. Robert Pattinson was named Best Male Performer for the second year in a row and the pair prevailed for Best Kiss for the third straight time.

One of the rival smooches was between Stewart and her other love interest, Taylor Lautner, who also lost Best Male to Pattinson once again. After accepting the lip-locking award, Pattinson went into the audience to plant a peck on Lautner [Be sure to vote in our poll about that]. Pattinson also picked up his second Best Fight award, this time for his battle with Bryce Dallas Howard and Xavier Samuels. The latter lost the Breakthrough Award to Chloe Grace Moretz (“Kick-Ass”).

“Inception” won just one of its seven races — for Ellen Page and her Scared As S**T performance — while “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” prevailed with just one of its six bids — Best Villain Tom Felton. “The Social Network” lost all five of its bids and “Black Swan” was bested in its four races.

Emma Stone won Best Comedic Performance for her breakthrough in “Easy A” while Justin Bieber claimed the Jawdropper award for his lap dance in his 3-D concert film “Never Say Never.” And 2005 Best Actress Oscar champ Reese Witherspoon (“Walk the Line”) received the Generation Award.

“SNL” funny man Jason Sudekis hosted the 20th anniversary edition of the kudos. He is the eighth current or former castmate from this NBC staple to emcee this free-wheeling awards show which aired live on MTV Sunday night.
