Will softer Ari Gold on ‘Entourage’ be winner for Jeremy Piven? [Video]

During the first four seasons of  “Entourage,” Jeremy Piven won three Emmys and a Golden Globe for playing the bombastic agent Ari Gold. However, he has not contended at the Emmys for the last three years and was snubbed at last year’s Golden Globes after six consecutive bids. Perhaps showing the softer side of his character will get him back in the awards game.

As he tells Rob Licuria and Chris Beachum, “To be able to reveal his humanity and to reveal his love for his wife and his family and for Vince (Adrian Grenier), who he would chain himself to a desk for, that was the goal.” He says the writers wanted, “to show that and contrast that to his evil ways. He was a loyal person and did have this love for people in his life. That was something I always wanted to make sure we tracked.”

The HBO laffer ended its run this past September and Piven has one final shot at awards success with the upcoming Golden Globes (where he won once in 2008 out of six bids) and Screen Actors Guild Awards (where he had three individual and three ensemble nods but no wins). He and the show will also be eligible at the 2012 Emmy Awards.

An “Entourage” feature film has been commissioned and would presumably pick up as the series finale ended: with the Ari Gold character now reconciled with his wife (Perrey Reeves) and possibly taking over the reigns of his own studio. In the meantime, he has a starring role in the film “I Melt With You” (with Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe, and Christian McKay). They play four college friends who reunite after two decades with dire consequences.
