Will the Encore Awards be the Asian Grammys?

Could the world be treated to the Asian Grammys? That may become a reality in the coming years as MusicDNA Pte Ltd, a private company involved in the development, production, and distribution of entertainment content, announces a groundbreaking new venture: the Asia Academy of Music Arts & Sciences (AAMAS), which will be the region’s first Academy to honor and nurture achievements in music throughout the East.

The AAMAS will unite music professionals in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Headquartered in Singapore, where MusicDNA is also based, the Academy could make the republic one of the world’s foremost hubs for the music industry. In the works for more than two years, the Academy launched on June 30 with three-thousand members.

The primary goal of the AAMAS is to unite Asian music talent in a collaborative, cooperative environment that will foster new developments in art and technology, and enhance the standing of the Asian music business throughout the international recording community. Says co-founder Edmund Ooi, “The peer-driven network of AAMAS is the catalyst for the betterment of Asia music within the global music industry and marketplace.”

To promote and celebrate the work done within the organization, the AAMAS has planned an inaugural “Encore” show to be held in China in April 2012. The event moves to Vietnam in 2013. Those will lead to the first Encore Awards show in 2014 in Singapore, which will be broadcast worldwide.
