A closer look: Max von Sydow in ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’

Though both are 82, Max von Sydow (“Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close“) is sixth months older than his Oscar rival Christopher Plummer (“Beginners”). Each is contending for Best Supporting Actor. While Plummer has won the lion’s share of precursor prizes, von Sydow could benefit from the glow of his long, lustrous career.

From his fabled films with Ingmar Bergman to appearances in blockbusters like “Hawaii” and “The Exorcist” to his 1988 Best Actor bid for “Pelle the Conqueror,” von Sydow has made his mark in movies.

Warner Bros. has posted a short video in which co-stars Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks and Thomas Horn as well as director Stephen Daldry laud his performance as a Holocaust survivor in this Best Picture nominee. It is well worth a look here
