PBS dominates Daytime Emmys Creative Arts awards

As with their primetime counterpart, the Daytime Emmys have a separate ceremony honoring winners of the creative arts. It was held Sunday at the Bonaventure Westin in Los Angeles and PBS dominated, winning a lucky 13 Daytime Emmys.

The pubcaster’s flagship “Sesame Street” won Best Pre-School Children Series for the 17th time while “The Electric Company” shared Best Children’s Series with the syndicated “Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild.” 

At 94, animation veteran June Foray (Rocky on “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show”) picked up her first Daytime Emmy for her voice work on “Garfield.”

The prizes for daytime dramas were spread around:

All My Children” won Editing and Sound Mixing (tie);

The Bold and the Beautiful” won Art Direction/Set Direction and Hairstyling (tie); 

Days of Our Lives” won Makeup and Stunt Coordination;

General Hospital” took Casting, Costume Design, Song and Technical Direction; 

One Life to Live” won Lighting; and 

Young and the Restless” won Score and tied for Hairstyling and Sound Mixing.

Among the Special Class awards, The Oprah Winfrey Network won Series for “Super Soul Sunday,” The Style Network claimed Special for “Style Exposed: Baring It All.” and “#The Ellen DeGeneres Show#” took Writing. 

“Cars.tv” claimed Best Lifestyle Program over the likes of “The Martha Stewart Show.”
