When last year’s Emmy Awards nominations were announced, AMC’s period drama “Mad Men” led among all series with 19 bids. HBO’s prohibition piece “Boardwalk Empire” was next with 18 nominations.
Among laffers, ABC’s “Modern Family” earned 17 nominations while NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” was tops among variety series with 16 bids.
HBO’s freshman series “Game of Thrones” tied with NBC’s long-running “30 Rock” at 13 and FOX’s “Glee” had 12. Competing as a mini-series, PBS’s “Downton Abbey” earned 11 nominations.
All of those series are back in the hunt this year, joined by AMC’s returning “Breaking Bad” and Showtime’s newcomer “Homeland.”
