Charles Dicken‘s novel “Great Expectations” has been adapted for the screen, big or small, 17 times already. Version number 18, helmed by BAFTA winner Mike Newell (“Four Weddings and a Funeral”), will unspool at the Toronto filmfest.

BAFTA nominee David Nicholls (“Shakespeare RE-told”) has adapted this classic story of orphan Pip (Jeremy Irvine) who becomes a gentleman due to the beneficence of Magwitch (Ralph Fiennes) but sees his love for Estella (Holliday Grainger) thwarted by her adoptive mother Miss Havisham (Helena Bonham Carter).
