Sneak peek: Leonardo DiCaprio woos Carey Mulligan in first trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’

Leonardo DiCaprio has teamed up again with “Romeo + Juliet” director Baz Luhrmann for the third celluloid version of F. Scott Fitgerald‘s “The Great Gatsby.” The first trailer for the 3-D film, which opens on Christmas Day, reveals the lush style for which Luhrmann is well-known.

Art direction and costumes are by Luhrmann’s wife Catherine Martin who won a pair of Oscars for her work on “Moulin Rouge!” in 2001. Thought that film was nominated for Best Picture, Luhrmann was snubbed by the academy.

He has reteamed with Craig Pearce, who co-wrote “Moulin Rouge” as well as “Romeo + Juliet,” to adapt Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel about mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) and his tragic love affair with the married Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan), which is recounted by her cousin Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire).
