‘Girls’ has best chance of beating ‘Modern Family’ for Comedy Series Emmy [Poll results]

While “Modern Family” looks like a lock to claim Comedy Series for the third year in a row at the Emmys, these kudos have been known to surprise us sometimes. When asked which of the five rival nominees had the best chance of beating this laffer for the top award,  our Users responded in the hundreds. Topping their list of potential upsets is “Girls.” This freshman HBO laffer from writer/director/star Lena Dunham drew 34% of the vote. 

In second place is that paycaster’s long-running “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” This look at the life of Larry David has contended six times unsuccessfully, being nominated for all but its first season. It has the support of 26% of our Users.

The top-rated sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” contends for the second year in a row in this race. This CBS laffer drew 20% in our poll.

The new HBO political comedy “Veep,” which stars Emmy darling Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the beleaguered Vice President, took in just 13% at the ballot box. 

And “30 Rock,” which won this award for three years in a row beginning in 2007, managed just 7%.
