Oscar Predictions: Best Animated Feature

The nominees for Best Animated Feature range from two blockbuster sequels to an off-beat studio film to two low-budget European entries.

Rango,” one of the best reviewed films of the year, is the clear frontrunner in this race. This first animated feature from director Gore Verbinski stars Johnny Depp as the voice of a lizard stranded in a town facing a water shortage.

Puss in Boots” is a spin-off from the “Shrek” series. Chris Miller helmed this well-received hit about the wily feline. The original “Shrek” won this race when it was introduced in 2001.
