News Nuggets: ‘Louie’ won’t return with new episodes until 2014

FX’s “Louie” won’t return until 2014: “Series creator/writer/director/star Louis C.K. and FX president John Landgraf say the show won’t return until the spring of 2014. C.K. wants to take some extra time to figure out where he wants the show to go and, he says, make it better. ‘The last three seasons have been this surge of fun and work and stories. It’s been great to share all this stuff, but I want to keep going. I want the show to keep getting better,’ C.K. says. ‘That’s my goal. I don’t want it to be making the doughnuts. I want it to keep being something that comes from somewhere fun and important, and I want it to stay funny.'” ZAP2IT

Guy Lodge surveys this year’s top Oscar contenders for Best Actress: “Earlier this year, pundits suggested that the Best Actress field was looking even thinner than usual. As we crawl closer to awards season, picking up festival discoveries and critical favorites along the way, it’s looking increasingly competitive — with only one name, I’d venture, assured a spot on the ballot … it’s a varied an unusual field, with frontrunners ranging from a red-hot Hollywood ingenue to an 8-year-old amateur to not one, but two, marvelous French-language Cannes sensations.” IN CONTENTION

Sasha Stone wonders if “Silver Linings Playbook” can win the Golden Globe against “Les Miserables“: “Now, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ is in the lead to win Best Picture if you go by Fandango’s Dave Karger and The Wrap’s Steve Pond. It will be put in the category of comedy at the Globes. But that puts it against Tom Hooper’s ‘Les Miserables.’ That’s kind of like putting your bishop in front of your queen … It’s possible that 2012 will be a year a comedy wins Best Picture.  ‘Shakespeare in Love’ beat ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ ‘Annie Hall’ beat ‘Star Wars’ – but really had no competition beyond that. And ‘The Apartment’ remains not only one of the best films ever made but one of Oscar’s best ever decisions for Best Picture.” AWARDS DAILY
