The second film in the trilogy, “The Dark Knight” was denied a nomination for Best Picture in 2008. Outrage about this oversight prompted the academy to expand the field, first to 10 films and now to a range of between five and 10 nominees.
When asked how many Oscar nominations this final film would reap, about one-third of respondents expect it do at least as well as “The Dark Knight,” the second film in the trilogy, which earned eight bids. It won two of those races — Supporting Actor (Heath Ledger) and Sound Editing.
