Our Experts are divided as to who will win the Golden Globe for Drama Actor.
Four are predicting that Oscar frontrunner Chiwetel Ejiofor will win here first for playing the title role of “12 Years a Slave” He contended over on the comedy/musical side back in 2006 for his takes no prisoners perfomance as a fierce drag queen in “Kinky Boots”; he lost to Sacha Baron Cohen for “Borat.”
And four expect Matthew McConaughey to take the prize for transforming himself into a dying AIDS patient in “Dallas Buyers Club.” Despite a two-decade career that included a slew of well-received romantic comedies as well as indie dramas, McConaughey has never reaped a Golden Globes bid.
And one Expert likes the looks of Robert Redford as a stranded sailor in “All is Lost.” The screen legend won Most Promising Newcomer (Male) at the 1965 Golden Globes for “Inside Daisy Clover” and Best Director in 1980 for “Ordinary People.” While he was feted with the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 1993, he has never contended here for his acting.
Because Ejiofor is ranked higher by all Experts, he has slightly better odds than McConaughey at 23/10 versus 12/5. Redford is at 9/2.
