New Oscar predictions from 23 Experts: Oprah drops, Fassbender threatened


Oprah Winfrey (“The Butler“) has lost the lead in the Oscar race for Best Supporting Actress to Lupita Nyongo (“12 Years a Slave“) and Michael Fassbender (“12 Years a Slave”) is dangerously close to falling behind Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club“) in the Best Supporting Actor contest, according to the latest predictions of 23 Experts at Gold Derby.

12 Years a Slave” (7/2 odds) still rules the Best Picture matchup with 15 pundits picking it to prevail, compared to five for “Gravity” (11/2) and three for “American Hustle” (15/2).

Ahead in the Best Actor slugfest: Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”) has 11 votes and 23/10 odds, followed by Robert Redford (“All is Lost“) with nine votes and 3/1 odds and Matthew McConaughey (“Dallas Buyers Club“) with two votes and 9/2 odds.

Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine“) still leads the Best Actress race with 18 votes and 13/8 odds despite the spectacular success of Sandra Bullock in “Gravity.” Bullock has four votes and 10/3 odds.
