Eric Church leads ACM Awards with seven nominations

Nominations were announced today for the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, and Eric Church leads with seven bids, including Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year for “Chief,” though he was not nominated for Entertainer of the Year. Following close behind with six nominations is Hunter Hayes. The young breakthrough singer was recently nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys and also won New Artist of the Year last fall at the CMA Awards. He contends twice for Single of the Year as artist and producer for “Wanted,” and twice more for Song of the Year for writing and performing that song.

Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift follow with five nominations apiece, including Entertainer of the Year. Swift has won that prize for the last two years and is only the second female artist to win that award twice, following Carrie Underwood. Swift and Lambert are also rivals for Female Vocalist of the Year. Elsewhere, Lambert contends for Single and Song of the Year (“Over You“), while Swift competes for Album of the Year (“Red“) and Video of the Year (“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together“).

Rounding out the Entertainer of the Year category are Jason Aldean, with three total nominations; Luke Bryan, with four; and Blake Shelton, with three.

Joining Swift and Church among Album of the Year nominees are Carrie Underwood (“Blown Away“), Luke Bryan (“Tailgates and Tanlines“), and Little Big Town (“Tornado“).
