Can anyone beat Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for New Artist at AMAs?

Breakthrough hip-hop artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are the overwhelming favorites to win New Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards according to our predictors. They get 3/2 odds with unanimous support for editors, our top 24 users, and six times as many users as the remaining four nominees combined! Can anyone challenge them?

Imagine Dragons come closest with 9/2 odds. They have two other nominations this year – Pop/Rock Duo or Group and Alternative Rock Artist – and their single “Radioactive” was a major hit in 2013, with more than five million digital copies sold.

Ariana Grande follows with 11/2 odds. This is her only nomination, but the 20-year-old pop singer appeals to a similar demographic as recent winners Justin Bieber (2010), Hot Chelle Rae (2011), and Carly Rae Jepsen (2012).

Country duo Florida Georgia Line are not far behind her with 13/2 odds. They have three other nominations: Country Duo or Group, Country Album (“Here’s to the Good Times“), and Single of the Year for their smash hit remix of “Cruise” featuring Nelly.

Ranking fifth in our predictions is “American Idol‘s” 11th season winner Phillip Phillips with 15/2 odds.
