‘Behind the Candelabra’ or ‘American Horror Story’ for Best Movie/Mini at Emmys?

Last year, the first season of “American Horror Story” lost the newly combined category of Best Movie/Miniseries to “Game Change.” 

This year, it faces a fierce foe in HBO’s biopic of Liberace, “Behind the Candelabra.” While “American Horror Story: Asylum” showcases two-time Oscar winner Jessica Lange, Steven Soderbergh‘s film features a pair of Oscar champs — Michael Douglas and Matt Damon as the showman and his consort. 

Currently, “Candelabra” has the edge, with five of our editors and 60% of our users predicting it to prevail. That gives it leading odds of 12 to 5

“Asylum” has the backing of two editors and 30% of users for odds of 10 to 3. 

The crime thriller “Top of the Lake” headlined by another Oscar winner, Holly Hunter, has the support of one editor and 5% of users for odds of 6 to 1.

The Brit hit “Parades End” has a smattering of votes and odds of 9 to 10.

Another HBO biopic, “Phil Spector,” pairs up Oscar winners Al Pacino and Helen Mirren as the music mogul accused of murder and his attorney. It has odds of 10 to 1.

Political Animals” was axed by USA after its first run of six episodes. This first regular TV gig for Sigourney Weaver is the longshot at 14 to 1.
