Newcomer Kacey Musgraves ahead of CMA darlings for Album of the Year

Newcomer Kacey Musgraves has made a big splash at the CMAs this year with six nominations, but despite being new on the scene our predictors give her the best odds (21/20) to win the coveted Album of the Year prize for her major label debut, “Same Trailer Different Park.”

That puts her narrowly ahead of Taylor Swift, the only nominee this year who has won the category before (“Fearless,” 2009). Though she’s even younger than Musgraves she has already racked up seven wins in her career, including two victories for Entertainer of the Year (2009, 2011). But her latest album, “Red,” nevertheless trails with 14/5 odds.

Last year’s Entertainer of the Year winner Blake Shelton is in third place with 9/2 odds for his eighth studio album, “Based on a True Story.”

In fourth place is another CMA favorite: five-time winner Carrie Underwood, who gets 20/1 odds for “Blown Away.”

The race’s biggest underdog is Little Big Town. The quartet surprised by winning Single of the Year in 2012 for “Pontoon,” but the nomination may be the reward for their album “Tornado,” which gets 100/1 odds in this race.
