Nelson Branco is top expert predicting Daytime Emmy nominees

Longtime soap opera journalist and Daytime Emmy guru Nelson Branco (Soap Opera Uncensored) was the top expert predicting this year’s Daytime Emmy nominations with 68% correct.

Among Branco’s savvy picks, he was one of the few to foresee lead-acting nominations for “The Young and the Restless” stars Michael Muhney and Michelle Stafford. He also wisely bet on bids for their “Y&R” castmates Jeff Branson and Hunter King and predicted all four nominees for Best Actor.

Following close behind Branco was Dan Kroll (Soap Central) with 67%; he also went four-for-four in the Best Actor category.

Gold Derby’s Paul Sheehan and Jamey Giddens (Daytime Confidential) both scored 66%. Sheehan was one of the few to predict Lindsey Morgan‘s surprise Younger Actress bid for “General Hospital,” while Giddens went out on a limb for Supporting Actress nominee Jessica Collins (“Y&R”).

Roger Newcomb (We Love Soaps) correctly picked 63%, including unexpected Best Actress nominee Peggy McCay (“Days of Our Lives“). Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil scored 61%.
