What happens when co-stars collide at Emmys? [Gallery]

What happens when lead co-stars compete against each other at the Emmys?

Do they cancel each other out with vote splitting? Or do the combos of episodes help one win over the other?

Both outcomes have happened many times over the years.

“Six Feet Under” co-stars Michael C. Hall and Peter Krause as well as Frances Conroy and Rachel Griffiths never won despite numerous nods.

Neither did Friends” pals Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry or Rob Lowe and Martin Sheen from “The West Wing.”

Then again, when “Cagney and Lacey” stars Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless competed against each other for six years running, one of them always prevailed.

Jim Parsons has won over “The Big Bang Theory” co-star Johnny Galecki.

And Dennis Franz defeated “NYPD Blue” co-star David Caruso once and Jimmy Smits three times.

Take a tour through our photo gallery to find out what happened when each of 29 groups of co-star nominees battled in the lead categories at the Emmys.
