Emmys fun facts and trivia: Comedy Guest Actress

All of this year’s Comedy Guest Actress nominees have contended for at least one other Emmy in their careers.

Elaine Stritch (“30 Rock”) won this award for playing this same part in 2007.

Melissa McCarthy (“Saturday Night Live”) claimed Comedy Actress for the freshman season of “Mike & Molly” two years ago.

Since 2009, “Saturday Night Live” guest hosts have been allowed to compete in this category. Two have won: Tina Fey (2009) and Betty White (2010). McCarthy and Kristen Wiig are nominated this year.

Melissa Leo (“Louie”) is the only Oscar winner nominated for a comedy acting Emmy this year. Alec Baldwin (“30 Rock”), Don Cheadle (“House of Lies”), Laura Dern (“Enlightened”), McCarthy, and Wiig are past Academy Award nominees.

Dot-Marie Jones (“Glee”) has been nominated in this category three consecutive years.

If Stritch wins, she would be the second oldest winner ever in this category. White was 88 years, 8 months. Stritch would be 88 years, 7 months.
