Darrin Dortch: Why ‘We Are Young’ will win Song of the Year at Grammys

The Song of the Year nominees at this year’s Grammys are:

“The A Team” — sung by Ed Sheeran
“Adorn” — sung by Miguel
Call Me Maybe” — sung by Carly Rae Jepsen
“Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” — sung by Kelly Clarkson
We Are Young” — sung by Fun. feat. Janelle Monae

This is “The A Team’s” sole nomination. Ed Sheeran wasn’t nominated in Record of the Year, Best New Artist or Pop Solo Performance so he’s out.

“Adorn” was nominated here and in the R&B field but was snubbed in Record; a win for Miguel is unlikely.

In recent years, the artist that sings the nominated track wins here so “Stronger” is also an unlikely winner.

Call Me Maybe” is, arguably, the year’s most ubiquitous pop song; it spent nine weeks at #1. However, Carly Rae Jepsen’s snubs in Record and Best New Artist indicate support for her is limited.

Fun. is heavily nominated this year and will win here with “We Are Young” as a consolation prize for losing Record and Album.
