Oscars’ Best Actor race: It’s a tie! Robert Redford and Chiwetel Ejiofor

Just because Robert Redford (“All is Lost“) has the most Experts predicting he’ll win the Oscar for Best Actor doesn’t mean he’s comfortably ahead. In fact – according to Gold Derby’s statistics, charts and racetrack odds – he’s actually tied with Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave“).

Twelve Experts back Redford compared to nine for Ejiofor, but both contenders have 12-to-5 odds (29%) because Ejiofor is consistently ranked higher up on all Experts’ lists. Three prognosticators foresee a win by Matthew McConaughey (“Dallas Buyers Club“).

Check out the chart above (and more charts here) to see how far out front Redford was at the start of the Best Actor derby back in late August. Then “Slave” broke out as a hit at the Toronto and Telluride Film Festivals and Ejiofor took the lead. Now Redford has rallied and pulled even.
